Shams and Coverups is an Arts and Crafts design studio based in Raleigh, North Carolina. We fabricate memories from the basic ingredients of textiles, thread, dyes, patterns, and love. "Memories" are primarily the creation of myself, Emili. I collaborate with Scott, my husband and professional designer, to flush out ideas. Prior to this year, I made only custom memories. I left the corporate world, after working for 10 years in the banking industry as an accountant, to become a new Mom. My memories of endless days in a cube behind a computer screen, wishing I was crafting and making, are fading away. I have at long last been able to make a full-time commitment to making my creations available to everyone.

My family is my primary source of inspiration, especially Grandma Eaves, who nurtured my love of sewing while I was a little girl. She was an accomplished Quilter, Musician, and seamstress. She lived through the Great Depression in the rural foothills of western North Carolina, where Scott and I grew up. She made clothes for my sister and I growing up, and, told us stories of the "Flour Sack Dresses" they made and wore when she was our age. Her sense of humor and joy of life inspired everyone she came in contact with. In fact, in her late 80's, she became a fan of "Pinky and the Brain", and sewed us a wonderful "Pinky and the Brain" quilt as a gift.

The best place to find our handcrafted creations is through our exclusive online retailer, Etsy. You can also find us in a few local retailers, and growing, across the country. We are strong advocates for supporting local, handmade goods and services.
