Cupcakes

A few years back my husband and I took a trip to the west coast. We flew to Seattle where we stayed two nights with plans to rent a car and drive to Vancouver for two nights. From there, we would travel to Whistler via the Sea to Sky highway where my husband could snowboard for a couple days. We packed our seven day trip full of activities and site seeing.

I encountered my very first cupcake shop on this trip. The Cupcakes shop in Vancouver, CA was so beautiful! I was drawn to all the beautiful colors of the store; the cupcakes with fluffy butter cream icing and the shiny silver stands the cupcakes were displayed on. My purchase was the bright yellow Lemon Drop, the “big one” of course. I’m sure my mother laughed at me when I told her how much I paid for a cupcake and someone had a store that sold only cupcakes.
More Cupcakes!

After that trip I researched how to make my own butter cream icing at home, bought a few piping tools, sprinkles and icing colors (the concentrated paste kind) and tried making these cupcakes for myself. My co-workers were thrilled with my new found love of cupcakes since they benefited every time I brought a new batch into work.

About a year or so after that trip is when I purchased an embroidery machine and software to create my own custom embroidery designs. One of the first designs I wanted was a cupcake. My husband, a graphic designer, helped create the design. It was later in the design process that I had him add a little heart to the image. This has been my favorite embroidery design ever since. I love making the “I Love Cupcakes” kitchen towels for my Etsy shop and still love to eat cupcakes. Now, I support our local cupcake store, The Cupcake Shoppe Bakery in Raleigh and when I have time, make my own at home.

My Sticky Coverup Clutch on Craftgawker

One of my Sticky Coverup Clutches is on Craftgawker. The clutch is posted between the vintage ceramic ashtray of a wading hippo and the etched sterling silver cuff. Gawk all you want! I had fun looking through this site.

100 Sales!

100 Sales I'm not a top seller on Etsy but I hit 100 sales this week and that makes me very happy! I love what I do and I'm glad that so many people have liked my work well enough to buy it for themselves or give as a gift. I'm hoping 200 sales will come sooner than I think. Wish me luck!

New Fabrics

On my recent trip to my favorite fabric shop in Raleigh, Wish upon a Quilt, I got these lovely fabrics. Now, what new projects can I come up with to use them?

Clearing out the clutter

Where there's a will there is a way, right? About a month ago I begged a dear friend of mine to drive here (over three hours away) to help me have a yard sale. After living in several houses and having a baby you accumulate lots of stuff you just don't need any more. Not only did she come to help me but she brought signs, a tent and some of her own things to place in the yard sale. She is a true yard sale pro to which I have named her "Yard Sale Maven". How many friends do you have that would say yes to helping you clear clutter from your home over the weekend?

Once a lot of the clutter was gone she helped me with the task of cleaning and organizing my sewing room. She had some great ideas about arranging the workspace that I am still utilizing now. After all the work, what I ended up with was a nice clean, organized sewing room where I can work stress free. In the process, we also had a great time catching up and going out to eat. You can't complain about that.
